Business Judge for Junior Achievement Washington, DC. Case Challenge

9th-grade students at Surrattsville High School were asked, “What modifications or upgrades to the customer experience should Arby’s consider to appeal to a new target market of 13-17 year-olds?”  The winner of this event will go onto complete in Junior Achievement’s first ever Regional Competition!  Our Toby Hawes served as a Business Judge.

“It was incredible to see 9th-grade student teams analyze survey data to develop an innovative and locally focused solution for Arby’s. The winning group stood out because they took a deeper dive into the data. Their first survey aimed to determine whether their target market was dining at Arby’s—when they discovered it wasn’t, they conducted a second survey to identify where their audience was eating instead. After pinpointing a key competitor, they thoroughly researched how that competitor attracted customers. Using these insights, they crafted a strategy that not only positioned Arby’s as a strong rival but also tailored its approach to their specific target market. Beyond their data-driven strategy, the team impressed us with their preparation, enthusiasm, and engaging presentation. It was a fantastic experience serving as a judge for the case study and contributing my insights to such talented students.”
